Symbolism of the Great Sign

Let them give glory to the LORD, And declare His praise in the coastlands. The LORD shall go forth like a mighty man; He shall stir up His zeal like a man of war. He shall cry out, yes, shout aloud; He shall prevail against His enemies. (Isa. 42:12, 13)

Lift up, you everlasting doors! And the King of glory shall come in. (Ps. 24:9b)

Revelation 12 is the last warning sign of the approaching Day of the Lord and the perfect storm that is coming with it. It signifies the actualization of Christ’s special expectations for His church. As I discussed in the previous chapter, the imminent Day of the Lord will be accompanied by a battle between two armies, both of which God will allow to be fought. The destructive army will be characterized by the wrath and judgement on the wickedness of people who refused to repent of their ways and accept the only God, Jesus Christ: “Do homage to the Son, that He not become angry, and you perish in the way, For His wrath may soon be kindled. How blessed are all who take refuge in Him!” (Ps. 2:12, NASB) The second army will prepare the way in praise and obedience to Him. They will open the gates and allow Him to come with glory, because He is the King of Glory and expects to come as such: “Lift up your heads, O you gates! And be lifted up, you everlasting doors! And the King of glory shall come in. Who is this King of glory? The LORD strong and mighty, The LORD mighty in battle. Lift up your heads, O you gates! Lift up, you everlasting doors! And the King of glory shall come in. Who is this King of glory? The LORD of hosts, He is the King of glory”  (Ps. 24:7-10).

I strongly believe that the second army will have a great number of women. At least, God will use women to wake up the rest. Their main job is to stay on their knees in prayer. This will cause God to move into the midst of His Church. Thus, through His Church, He will glorify Himself in the last hours. Before we go into detail on the task of this glorious second army, we will unmask the symbolism of Revelation 12:

A great sign appeared in heaven: a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet and a crown of 12 stars on her head. She was pregnant and cried out in labor and agony as she was about to give birth. Then another sign appeared in heaven: There was a great fiery red dragon having seven heads and 10 horns, and on his heads were seven diadems. His tail swept away a third of the stars in heaven and hurled them to the earth. And the dragon stood in front of the woman who was about to give birth, so that when she did give birth he might devour her child. But she gave birth to a Son—a male who is going to shepherd all nations with an iron scepter—and her child was caught up to God and to His throne. (Rev. 12:1–5, HCSB)

  • A great sign appeared in heaven: This is an actual sign in heaven with the physical heavenly bodies and constellations. This sign also carries symbolism that conveys a spiritual message for Jewish people and the Church. (I describe the activity of those bodies in chapter one.)
  • A woman . . . with a crown of 12 stars on her head: The woman represents the nation of Israel, because she has a crown of twelve stars to represent the twelve tribes and in particular the tribe of Judah or a lion (Gen. 49:8–10). This crown is shaped like a lion. The Church is included as well. It believes in Jewish Messiah, Jesus Christ and His Scriptures.
  • Clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet: The sun represents birth or enlightenment of the woman. The moon represents night or great trials. Both are primarily related to the woman. Thus, it suggests that the Jewish nation and the Church will endure great tribulation, which will birth a certain positive outcome.
  • She was pregnant and cried out in labor and agony to give birth: The trials will bring worth the rebirth of the Church or revival, where many Jewish people will accept Christ as their Messiah, and the Church will purify its garments.
  • But she gave birth to a Son—a male who is going to shepherd all nations with an iron scepter: “Son” represents the Church or the body of Christ. The tribulation of Jewish people and the Church will bring rebirth or revival to the Church. God always did everything related to Him through His people, the Jews. The Holy Bible was written through them to bless whole humanity. The Law was given through them in order to set God’s moral ethics for humanity. Covenants were made between God and them. Jesus, the Savior came from them. The early church was made out of them first. The final global revival will not be without them. Their blessings come directly to the gentiles. We are blessed through the seed of Abraham, Jesus Christ. We must pray for their revival in order to get our revival.
  • Her child was caught up to God and to His throne: “Child” represents the Church, which is body of Christ. The revived Church will be caught up or raptured to be with God. This Church will be made up of Jews and people out of all nations.
  • Then another sign appeared in heaven: There was a great fiery red dragon having seven heads and 10 horns, and on his heads were seven diadems. His tail swept away a third of the stars in heaven and hurled them to the earth: The second sign will be within the physical bodies of heaven and holds a spiritual message for us. A political system will rise and persecute the reborn Church, both Jews and Gentiles.
  • And the dragon stood in front of the woman who was about to give birth, so that when she did give birth he might devour her child: During the revival and the rebirth of the Church, the political system will try to crush the Church through severe persecution. At this time, the Rapture will happen.

Let’s simplify things: Shortly after September 23, 2017, will be a great hardship and possible persecution of Jewish people and the Church all over the world. God will allow these trials to bring revival to His beloved descendants of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and the Church. Through this persecution, they will accept their Messiah, Yeshua Hamashiach. Many people will accept Christ as their Savior. The world and the Church will witness miracles that have never been seen before. The name of Jesus Christ will be revered above any name. Many physical and spiritual strongholds will melt at the mention of His name. All these things will be possible because of God’s people filling their prayer cups for the world and their family members, relatives, neighbors, church, city, state, and country. At the peak of the revival, satan will raise a political system to crush the wave of the Holy Spirit’s movement throughout the land. The new, powerful Church will experience an intense persecution, but only for a short time. Sometime during the persecution, the Rapture will take place. The Feast of the Trumpets stands for the Rapture: “in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed” (1 Cor. 15:52).

After the Rapture, the antichrist will come into power for 3.5 years. He will go after God’s remaining people, the Jews who didn’t accept Jesus and Christians who were not raptured due to not being ready (Rev. 12:6–17). During these 3.5 years, people will see the other half of Revelation, which follows chapter 12. The rest of Revelation mostly describes the events that will take place after the Church is caught up. Those will be times of the great Tribulation. Left behind people will witness: the antichrist (Rev. 13); the trampling of the holy city and prophesying of the two witnesses (Rev. 11:1–14); the boils of wrath for serving the beast (Rev. 16); the judgement of the Babylon (Rev. 17, 18); the battle of Armageddon – the Feast of Atonement (Rev. 14:14–20; 19:11–21; Zech. 14:1–4); and the blowing of the seventh angel with his trumpet – the Feast of Tabernacles (Rev. 11:15–19).

Great Sign of a Woman

A great sign appeared in heaven: a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet, a crown of 12 stars on her head. She was pregnant and cried out in labor and agony as she was about to give birth. (Rev. 12:1–2, HCSB)

In our journey through the Holy Bible, we see God’s conversation with humanity from the first verse of the Old Testament to the last verse of the New Testament. Our Lord did not leave His people without guidance. He taught them to listen to Him through His written Word and then through His signs. God even created the sun, moon, and stars to speak to us about Him and His plans and warnings: “Then God said, ‘Let there be lights in the firmament of the heavens to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs and for seasons, and for days and years’” (Gen. 1:14).

God always warns His people of the things He plans to do: “If a trumpet is blown in a city, will not the people be afraid? If there is calamity in a city, will not the LORD have done it? Surely the Lord GOD does nothing, Unless He reveals His secret to His servants the prophets” (Am. 3:6–7). If we are careful enough in our scriptural studies about the Lord’s second return to Earth, we will find that the Lord has provided many signs and warnings we can recognize and use to prepare for this grand finale.

The wise men or astronomers, upon studying the heavens and the stars, found an unusual sign from heaven and understood its meaning: “Now after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, behold, wise men from the East came to Jerusalem, saying, ‘Where is He who has been born King of the Jews? For we have seen His star in the East and have come to worship him’” (Matt. 2:1–2). Thus, they came to Jerusalem and made it known to Herod who, in turn, asked the biblical scholars of that day. The appearance of the star signified, “The King is born”! In this way, the sign of the first coming of the promised Messiah was revealed to the Jewish nation. Only the wise men recognized the significance of this heavenly sign. The biblical scholars of those days seemed to be indifferent to the occasion. As we can see, it is not enough to just read and know the Scriptures. We must study them and pay attention to what they tell us. The Jewish scholars knew their writings; nevertheless, they missed the Messiah’s first coming.

The same star appeared at the time of the last blood moon of the tetrad on September 23, 2015, which was exactly two years before September 2017. It also appeared when God promised Abraham that he would have descendants like sand. Three appearances of the Bethlehem star two thousand years apart! Therefore, we should pay attention to what might come after the star’s last appearance. The next significant occurrence was the Revelation 12 signs of heaven.

In the manner of the Messiah’s first coming, we see a pattern in the second coming of Christ. He has given us a special sign in heaven, which is recognizable to modern astronomers. They tell us that once in six thousand years, a special occurrence took place within the heavenly bodies. This event, the great sign in heaven, is recorded prophetically by the Apostle John in Revelation 12.

This sign took place on September 23, 2017: “A great sign appeared in heaven: a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet and a crown of 12 stars on her head. She was pregnant and cried out in labor and agony to give birth” (Rev. 12:1–2, HCSB). It is as important as the wise men’s star at Jesus’ birth, which signified the birth of the Messiah. It came right after the Feast of Trumpets, which took place within a month after the total solar eclipse, which cut the US in half. The sign of the woman and the special solar eclipse of 2017 announce Christ’s imminent second return and the completion of the three fall feasts: the Feast of the Trumpets (the Rapture), the Feast of Atonement (battle of Armageddon), and the Feast of the Tabernacles (beginning of the Lord’s millennial reign).

Many biblical scholars were puzzled by the Revelation 12 sign of the woman in heaven. Now we can understand it, as we have seen it come to pass. It is a sign in heaven that illustrates the activity of heavenly physical bodies. The woman is a constellation of a virgin. Twelve stars made her crown in the form of a lion. The moon was under her feet. The sun stayed in her background and clothed her. Jupiter, the king planet, circled her abdominal area within a nine-month period and exited her at the time of this sign occurrence as she gave birth to the king planet, Jupiter. It was “a great sign in heaven” indeed! The sign of the woman in heaven is none other than the cry of ‘the ten virgins’ parable: “And at midnight a cry was heard: ‘Behold, the bridegroom is coming; go out to meet him!” (Matt. 25:6) Are we ready to meet the Groom? Are we all wise virgins? Jesus warned us that some people will not be ready.

After the sign of the woman, chapter 12 continues with a second sign. The actual physical bodies (which are stars, constellations, and planets) will be involved again:

Then another sign appeared in heaven: There was a great fiery red dragon having seven heads and 10 horns, and on his heads were seven diadems. His tail swept away a third of the stars in heaven and hurled them to the earth. And the dragon stood in front of the woman who was about to give birth, so that when she did give birth he might devour her child. But she gave birth to a Son—a male who is going to shepherd all nations with an iron scepter—and her child was caught up to God and to His throne. (Rev. 12:3–5, HCSB)

The two signs of the woman and the dragon are full of symbolism and significance. They carry extremely important messages. I will go into detail on the symbolism and what we can do to prepare a little later in this book.

Chapter 12 is in the middle of the book of Revelation. It means that most of the written events in Revelation have already transpired right before our eyes. Jesus’ first coming occurred before the eyes of many people, including the ones who were knowledgeable of the Hebrew Scriptures. Nevertheless, those who had to accept Him first failed to recognize His visitation. As we know, history repeats itself. Let’s learn from them and heed the Lord’s warnings through Scripture and signs. We need to get ready, for most of the elements of the prophecies concerning the last days are already complete. We are literally seconds from witnessing the Lord’s return!

In the book of Joel, we see more clues and signs of the approaching Day of the Lord: “And I will show wonders in the heavens and in the earth: Blood and fire and pillars of smoke. The sun shall be turned into darkness, And the moon into blood, Before the coming of the great and awesome day of the LORD” (Joel 2:30–31). We have already witnessed the unfolding of these in many ways. It is a mixture of Revelation 8 and 9 and Joel 2:2–10. Joel 2:31 came to completion in the recent tetrad or the set of four blood moons, which happened on the four Jewish holidays, and the super moon on November 14, 2016. The first tetrad moon showed up in the spring of 2014, on Passover, and the fourth was seen on September of 2015, on the Lord’s Feast of Tabernacles. These occurrences are special and rare and fit perfectly with all the other signs that happened and are happening around the world. Also, they complement the Scriptures, which point to our days as the days right before the great second coming of the Messiah, Jesus Christ. Combining the books of Joel and Revelation, we see we are dangerously out of time. These moons are God’s way of warning that the end is near.

Ancient Prophecy for Our Days

“. . . An assembly of treacherous men.  “And like their bow they have bent their tongues for lies. They are not valiant for the truth on the earth. For they proceed from evil to evil, And they do not know Me,” says the LORD. “Everyone take heed to his neighbor, And do not trust any brother; For every brother will utterly supplant, And every neighbor will walk with slanderers.  Everyone will deceive his neighbor, And will not speak the truth; They have taught their tongue to speak lies; They weary themselves to commit iniquity.  Your dwelling place is in the midst of deceit; Through deceit they refuse to know Me,” says the LORD. Therefore thus says the LORD of hosts: “Behold, I will refine them and try them; For how shall I deal with the daughter of My people? Their tongue is an arrow shot out; It speaks deceit; One speaks peaceably to his neighbor with his mouth, But in his heart he lies in wait.  Shall I not punish them for these things?” says the LORD. “Shall I not avenge Myself on such a nation as this?”” (Jeremiah 9:2c–9, NKJV)
